The Education Department In Kerala Is Preparing To Distribute
Additional Textbooks For Students In Classes 11 And 12. These Textbooks Will
Include Content That Was Previously Excluded By The National Council Of Educational
Research And Training (NCERT) During Its Process Of "Syllabus
Rationalisation."
According To Statements From Kerala's Education Minister, V
Sivankutty, These Supplementary Textbooks Will Be Accessible In The Coming
Month. They Will Cover A Range Of Subjects, Including The Assassination Of Mahatma
Gandhi And The Gujarat Riots. These Topics Had Been Removed From The NCERT History
Textbooks Initially.
The Decision To Reintroduce The Content That NCERT Had Removed
From The Classes 11 And 12 Textbooks Was Made By The Kerala State Council Of Educational
Research And Training (SCERT). A Curriculum Committee Within SCERT Took On The
Task Of Creating These Supplementary Textbooks.
The Government Of Kerala, Led By The CPI(M), Strongly
Criticized NCERT For Its Decision To Eliminate Specific Portions During The
Syllabus Rationalisation Process.
It's Important To Note That While NCERT's Changes To The
Syllabus Impacted Classes 6 To 12, Kerala Solely Relies On NCERT Textbooks For
Classes 11 And 12. As A Result, The Modifications Made By NCERT For Other
Classes Will Not Have Any Bearing On Students In Government Schools Enrolled In
Classes 6 To 10.
